Who/What

Children ages five to 15 years old can take a test drive at the controls of a medical robot. Meet two local surgeons, Dr. Danielle Sweeney with Children’s Urology and Dr. Peter Ruff with Urology Austin and learn about different procedures performed on the medical robot. This event is part of the Thinkery’s STEAM on the Spot program, which invites some of Austin’s most creative and innovative minds to the museum to share their experiences with visitors. The event is included with general admission.

The robotic surgical device translates the surgeon’s hand motions on 3-D visualization, computer-enhanced motion control system into exact movements. The increased range of motion allows for delicate surgical procedures in both children and adults to be performed with tiny keyhole incisions with enhanced precision. You can peel a grape with it!
