More than 40 summer campers from Austin, Texas’ children’s museum, the Thinkery, received an introduction to medicine from Children’s Urology’s, Dr. Danielle Sweeney.
Doctors, medical staff and other members of the Austin community, gathered on November 9 to ‘Party with a Purpose’, a fundraising event for Dell Children’s Surgical Global Outreach program, which offers surgical care in one of the world’s poorest communities. Children’s Urology, one of the event sponsors, has been volunteering on the medical trips to Guatemala since the program was launched four years ago.

KEYE-TV visited the Thinkery’s Meet the Robot and Be a Surgeon event sponsored by Children’s Urology. Dr. Danielle Sweeney, the first pediatric physician trained on the da Vinci medical device, helped children (and adults!) get an idea what it’s like to be a surgeon using this innovative surgical option. The goal of the event was to expose children to science and innovation using an interactive surgical simulation.
Children’s Urology is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its pediatric robotic assisted surgery program, the first and only of its kind in Central Texas. The Austin, Texas based-pediatric urology practice will commemorate the anniversary with the public in a Meet the Robot celebration on April 19 at the local children’s museum, Thinkery.
