FOX7 & RR Leader: Local Physician Helps Arrange Tour, Express Game for Ailing Child

Six-and-a-half-year old Clayton Murphy and his family regularly make the 90-mile trip from San Antonio to Dell Children’s Medical Center for tests and procedures as part of Clayton’s routine medical care.

The care is required for treating the symptoms of Clayton’s complex, rare and fatal genetic condition known as Zellweger Syndrome Spectrum.

“The metabolic disorder makes Clayton unable to process fatty acids in his liver—affecting every system in his body except his heart,” said Dr. Danielle Sweeney, pediatric urologist at Children’s Urology and Dell Children’s, and one of Clayton’s team of 14 physicians.

But, with the help of Sweeney and The Round Rock Express, Clayton’s latest trip to Central Texas was only about one thing…baseball. Together they helped create a memory he will never forget.

Clayton and his family were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of The Dell Diamond by Express pitcher, Josh Lindblom. “This game is a game I love and I get to play it for a living. It all goes back to a love of the game. He can’t show it but his mom knows it. Just that look in his eye or on his face means the world,” said Lindblom during an interview with Fox 7.
