Spina Bifida and Neurogenic Bladder

Spina Bifida in Austin, TX

Spina Bifida is the most common cause of a neurogenic bladder in children. Our providers specialize in all aspects of medical and surgical care for patients with spina bifida.

Under the direction of Dr. George M. Seremetis, patients are seen in the multidisciplinary Spina Bifida Clinic, located in the Specialty Care Center at Dell Children’s Medical Center. At your child’s initial evaluation diagnostic testing and a complete physical exam will be performed to establish a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan, which may include UTI management, bowel program or institution of clean intermittent catheterization.

Our team works closely with the other medical team members such as neurosurgery, orthopedics, Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy (PT/OT), Social Workers (SW) and equipment specialists, to round out the care of the patient, in addition to the nurse coordinators who manage and coordinate all aspect of the child’s care.

Our physicians also oversee the Urodynamic Testing Center at Dell Children’s Medical Center, taking the lead role in performing and interpreting this testing modality.
